In a series of online technical sessions, The TARURA Regional Manager, Eng. Goodluck, presented the Pamba bridge completed in Mwanza. The bridge is a short span bridge of 4m and cost 20 million TZS (8 000 USD), saving 50% compared to the equivalent concrete design.
Mwanza is sometimes also called the city of stones, because of its plentiful availability in the region. TARURA Mwanza is already using this sustainable resource for cobble stone road construction and has taken the initiative to gain experience with this first model bridge to use the same resource for bridge construction as well.
Eng. Kabyamela from Enabel, presented the Nyamihanga bridge in Kigoma. This medium span bridge has 3 cells of 8m span each. The cost was 135 million TZS (55 000 USD) down from 180 000 USD for a similar concrete bridge, saving 70%.
